August 21 - There There by Tommy Orange. Gertrude Stein famously said, "There is no there there," about Oakland. Bah! The at-first disconnected characters who Tommy Orange brings to life in his National Book Award winning debut novel meet at the Big Oakland Powwow. Look for the author to appear at MSU’s Convocation which is free for the public to attend.
